Dryer
Drying cylinder is a hollow cylinder with cover at both ends made of cast iron. It consists of cylinder block and cylinder head at both ends. The outer diameter of drying cylinder is more than 1000-3000mm. In the process of operation, the paper conveyed is dried and burned by steam.

Cast iron dryer for paper machine is a key component for paper drying, i. e. pressure vessel. Cast iron dryers account for about 2/3 of the total number of pressure vessels in the paper industry. The materials used to make dryers are usually HT200 and HT250. In order to increase the smoothness of paper surface, the outer surface of dryer should be polished and the inner surface should be polished so as to keep the thickness of the whole dryer wall consistent, so as to ensure the safety, balance and uniform heat transfer of dryer. The function of drying cylinder is to dry the moisture in the paper and finish the paper surface.
Component
The main parts of drying cylinder include roller shell, spoiler rod, siphon, end cover, manhole cover, bearing, shaft head, steam joint, etc.
Drying principle
The saturated steam from the steam joint condenses in the dryer, and the heat released makes the dryer temperature rise, thus heating the paper sheet which runs on the surface of the roll shell. Heat is transferred to paper in contact with the surface of the dryer.
The steam releases heat and produces a large amount of condensate water after condensation. The condensate water is attached to the inner surface of the dryer by centrifugal force due to the rotation of the dryer. Under the condition of high angular velocity, it forms a water ring, which hinders the transfer of heat to the surface of the dryer. Therefore, it is necessary for the siphon to discharge the condensate water in time. When the speed is low, there will be no water ring, but there will also be condensate splashing and accumulation in the dryer.

Steam joint
As mentioned earlier, steam is needed in the dryer and condensate water in the dryer needs to be discharged. But the dryer is a rotating cylinder, so a special joint is needed to accomplish this task, that is, the steam joint.
The introduction of steam and the discharge of condensate water are usually accomplished by a rotating joint at one end of the dryer, or by the introduction of steam at one end and the discharge of condensate at the other end.
Above is a typical schematic diagram of a steam joint. Steam and condensate are introduced and discharged at the same end. The shaft neck at the end of the dryer is hollow, thus providing a passage for steam and condensate. When steam enters the input end, it enters the dryer from the opening of the conveyor pipe, and the condensate is sucked up by the siphon pipe and discharged along the pipeline, which is inside the conveyor pipe. Because bearing and other components are also needed on the journal, the temperature rise caused by steam entering into the journal will have a negative impact. Therefore, the heat of steam in the conveyor pipe is separated from the journal as far as possible by the heat insulating sleeve. The insulating sleeve is fixed on the hollow journal and rotates with the dryer, while the fixing bracket and the conveyor pipe are stationary. The end of insulating sleeve should be sealed with carbon ring to prevent internal steam leakage.
Spoiler rod
The purpose of the spoiler is to destroy the condensate water ring formed in the dryer under high-speed rotation and to generate more turbulence. The spoiler rod is installed in the horizontal direction of the inner surface of the dryer. It rotates at the same speed with the dryer. Therefore, the water ring will be moved to generate turbulence, which is conducive to heat conduction. The position of the spoiler rod is drawn in the structure diagram of the dryer.
